Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 July 2024: The Scapegoat And Contaminated Articles

Daily Guide Devotional For Today 3rd July 2024 (Wednesday)

TODAY’S TOPIC: THE SCAPEGOAT AND CONTAMINATED ARTICLES
OPENING: As I read your word O Lord, grant me an insight and grace to do your will in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: LEVITICUS 16:20-34

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 July 2024 Outline:

Read vs.20-22 again and note what you observe about the scapegoat. The sending away of the scapegoat, bearing the sins of the nation (v.22), typifies Christ’s sacrifice. He was crucified and shed His blood outside the city to take our sins far away from us (Psalm 103:12; Isaiah 53:6; Luke 10:32-33). We are set free from our sins when we believe in Him, confess, and repent of them all.

Note that the atonement rituals were to be repeated every year (v.34), but by Christ’s death, our sins were forgiven, and our guilt was removed once and for all (Romans 8:1, Hebrews 10:14).

What were the two things the people were to do on this day (vs.29-31)? To access the full benefit of Christ’s atonement for us, we also need to be sober, confess our sins and repent from them. We need not rest on all our works of righteousness, knowing that our salvation is solely by faith through grace (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Practice/Word Application
To ponder: Now Jesus Christ has removed your sins by His blood and taken your guilt upon Himself and had them nailed to the cross. Need you go back to them?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Thank you, Lord, for being my redeemer and perfect sacrifice.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 23:6
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
